Peaceful Energy: Three Dogs Off-Leash Beside a Cow and Bull

Most people think dog training is about commands. Sit, stay, heel, come. In this short clip, Shawn Hines is outside with three dogs at once, all of them off-leash, none of them wearing an e-collar, and he is barely saying anything at all. A cow and a bull are standing at the gate a few feet away. The dogs notice them, and then they go back to what they were doing.

That is the whole point of the video. At Best Buddy Dog Training, we don't measure a dog by how many commands it knows or how sharply it snaps into position. We look at temperament, at whether the dog's energy fits the situation, and at how willing the dog is to connect with the person it belongs to and go along with what that person wants. A dog that has those three things does not need to be micromanaged around livestock, other dogs, strangers or traffic. It stays calm because calm is its default, not because a device or a pocketful of treats is holding it there.

Notice how little the dogs look at the cattle and how much they orient to Shawn. That is relationship doing the work. There is no robot-like obedience here, no rigid heel, no constant checking in for a reward. Just three dogs sharing peaceful energy with the person leading them, in a setting that would send a lot of dogs over the fence.

This is what we build in our in-home sessions and our board and train program across Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York. The method is the same whether the distraction is a bull at a gate, a squirrel on a sidewalk in Providence or a delivery driver at your front door in Boston.
