Off-Leash Obedience: 8 Dogs, No Collars

  • Category: bootcamp

Eight dogs rest on cots outdoors and come in one at a time when called. No e-collars, treats, leashes or fence. Real off-leash obedience from Best Buddy Dog Training.

What you're seeing

Eight dogs are lying on cots in the yard, off-leash, with no fence. Shawn calls them in one at a time, by name. Each dog waits for its own name, gets up, comes in, and the rest stay where they are. No e-collars, no treats, no clickers, and no leashes anywhere in the frame.

Why this Matters

One dog holding a down-stay is a basic exercise. Eight dogs holding it while a dog next to them gets up and leaves is not. Every dog on those cots has to choose to stay put when the most interesting thing in the yard is movement, and to do it without a lead to stop it or a treat to keep it there. Most recall problems show up the moment a second dog is involved, because the dog answers to the pack, not the person.

How it was trained

This is routine at Best Buddy, not a trick for the camera. The dogs practice lying down and staying for thirty minutes to an hour every day, building the calm state of mind that makes recall possible. Recall comes from the relationship: each dog has learned that Shawn controls space, movement, and resources, so they want to respond when called. That is the P.R.I.M.E. framework in action, which is why the obedience holds without any equipment.

Get this with your dog

The dogs in this video are Shawn's own and clients' dogs partway through a board-and-train stay. If you want your dog to come when called without a remote in your hand, start with our off-leash dog training program or book a free phone consultation.

Who you are to your dog is EVERYTHING
